The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.
Three Fulbright finalists earned their placements directly through Oswego: Christopher Byrne and Michael Kaefer were selected to teach in Germany, while Michelle Tomei was invited to teach in Romania. In addition, 2016 philosophy graduate Kimberlyn Bailey, who applied independently but received advice from Oswego’s experts during the application period, also was selected to conduct research in Germany. And 2015 graduate Katie Sullivan was invited to teach English in Malaysia.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging is accepting registrations for a workshop designed to help participants improve their balance and avoid falls. “Stepping On” is an evidence-based program proven to reduce falls in older adults.
The American Foundry will provide the next Salvation Army Guest Chef Dinner on April 24 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The Foundry’s chef, Chris Coe, will serve green apple smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese with bacon, vegetable, and tossed salad. Members of the advisory board will provide desserts and beverages.
Two Cayuga Community College sophomores have received the 2018 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, a prominent honor recognizing students for their work inside and outside the classroom. Receiving the award Tuesday at a ceremony in Albany, Cayuga students Glyn Davenport and Mitchell Phillips were praised for their stalwart academic performances and their extensive efforts helping other students and the surrounding communities.
Don’t spend spring break inside! Come celebrate Earth Week at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center with a Geocaching Egg Hunt. On April 26, from 9:30 – 11 a.m., this family-oriented program will teach participants how to use a GPS unit and then hunt for eggs in the woods.
Oswego Harborfest announces auditions for the 2018 Children’s Musical. Auditions will be held on April 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. and April 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the McCrobie Building on Lake Street in Oswego. Students in kindergarten through 12 grade are invited and may audition on either day.
Librarian Barb Senecal recently presented two students from each classroom in grades kindergarten through three with the Library Technology Award for their excellent effort, attitudes and respect for others in both the library and computer lab.
The Oswego County Historical Society will host the first lecture of the 2018 season on Sunday, April 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Oswego Public Library at 120 E. Second St., Oswego. Guest lecturer Joyce Cook will present a program based on her new book entitled “Elmina Spencer: Oswego’s Civil War Battlefield Nurse.”
Artwork by Megan Holzwarth of Central Square will be on display in SUNY Oneonta’s Martin-Mullen Art Gallery for the “Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition 2018” in the Fine Arts Center through May 12.
