Tom Briggs, director of the recent Quirk’s Players’ musical, “Annie,” said the decades-old tradition of showcasing select scenes from their productions has been successful twofold. It prepares the actors, actresses and crew for their public performances and opens up the world of theater to several young children.

Skate and Slide is a fun, free opportunity for children with disabilities to safely explore the ice with their families and local hockey volunteers. The event is open to children and their families on March 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fort Ontario Rink (Crisafulli Rink) in Oswego.

Responsible for evaluating United Way funded programs that are available to Oswego County, members of the Community Investment Committee play a key role in the United Way’s funding process.
The Oswego County Health Department will conduct its annual public health emergency preparedness drill on Wednesday, March 28. The health clinic, located at 70 Bunner St., Oswego, will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. and the public is invited to participate in this practice exercise. No actual vaccinations or medicines will be given.
Several Mexico Middle School students took home top honors for the local portion of the annual Patriot’s Pen national writing contest. Collin Hatch took home a first place finish at the local level, while Matthew Purchas came in second, Matthew Morrel came in third and Kaylee Drake came in fourth.
CNY Arts Center has added Joyce Cook to the lineup of new authors to be featured in the next Author’s Spotlight, March 18 from 3-5 pm at the Arts Hotspot, 47 S. First St. Author’s Spotlight, a quarterly event featuring local authors from the CNY region will spotlight Cook’s new book about Elmina Spencer who served on the Civil War battlefield as a nurse.
SUNY Oswego’s annual Honors Convocation will celebrate student academic achievement at 3 p.m. April 6, in the Marano Campus Center arena and convocation hall, with a keynote by 1985 graduate Kathy Bower, managing partner of Connecticut-based Gager Emerson law firm.
