Paul Lear, site director of Fort Ontario Historic Site, notes that this year marks the 253rd anniversary of an important battle fought at Fort Ontario in 1759, and the construction of the second Fort Ontario.
So you’ve always wanted to write a book, but have no idea where to begin? Or perhaps you started to write a book but need some direction. In the workshop “A Writer’s Journey, Where to Begin,” you’ll learn from the experiences of a successful writer as she shares what it takes to get a book into print.
A fresh coat of paint and grand plans for a busy summer of art experiences will be the spotlight of CNY Arts Center’s open house. The event will take place July 1 from 2-6 p.m. at the Arts Center’s new location, the Park Street entrance of State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State St. in Fulton.
One night after dinner while enjoying a cocktail in the lounge we chatted with some local people. We told them how much we enjoyed the Maritime Museum which is right next to the Sheraton and mentioned that the next day we were going to explore Presque Isle.
They asked, “Have you tried our famous sponge candy?”
Shanghai is an amazing city with more skyscrapers than New York City and many more being built. Also amazing is the luxurious Peninsula Hotel where John and I recently had the pleasure of staying. The Peninsula Hotels are considered some of the world’s best hotels.
Walking tours are wonderful especially so if they have a specific topic and cover only a small area. Thus it was with our “Burgh Bits and Bites” tour of Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
Two of my children went to college in West Virginia. While driving them to college we would go whizzing by Pittsburgh on Interstate 79 and comment, “We really should visit Pittsburgh. I hear they have done wonderful things.” But, there was never time. On a recent trip to Ohio, John and I made a point to come home via Pittsburgh and were so glad we did.
The event will host more than 40 artists featuring handmade, original art including vintage jewelry, handcrafted wood items, stained glass, recycled and upcycled art items, pottery, paintings, cigar box guitars, home décor, bird houses, crocheted & quilted items, books and portraits among other unique offerings.
Music staff member Steve Defren said, “This year we are welcoming Los Angeles based trombonist Andy Martin. He has played in numerous big bands including Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, had recorded several solo albums and has many, many movie and television credits to his name.”
Recently John and I spent three days in Erie making it a great stop on the way to visit family in Ohio. Here are some of the things we enjoyed.
