Artswego at SUNY Oswego launches its 2010-11 Performing Arts Series with a free, pulse-pounding appetizer of a performance by Step Afrika, follows up with the flavorful rhythms of Sol y Canto and moves on to music and dance entrees of international flair, with a side order of classic American comedy.
The unmistakable sounds of The Cortini Brothers will kick off Jazz Fest 2010 with a live performance on the Budweiser stage at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 13.
The recreated armies of King George III and General George Washington will converge on historic Fort Ontario in Oswego for two days of living history activities on Aug. 14-15. The National Encampment of BAR was last held at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in 1996 and will feature volunteer reenactors from around the United States and Canada.
One of the highlights of last year’s Jazz Fest, the legendary jazz guitarist, Melvin Sparks, the originator of soul jazz, old school acid jazz, and barbecue funk jazz, will return to ignite Fulton’s Jazz Fest with another electrifying performance on Aug. 14.
The Parish Olde Home Day will be co-sponsored by the Greater Parish Area Chamber of Commerce and the Parish Town Historical Society with the Cooperation of the Town and Village of Parish on Saturday, August 7. It will be a great day with some old traditions an techniques along with new ideas. The festivities will be held at the Rte 69 & 69A Corner lot, beginning at 9 a.m.
The Summer Sunset Concert Series will officially celebrate 75 years of free concerts on August 25th @ 7:00pm in Breitbeck Park. The Oswego City Band will present the concert under the direction of Donald Goodness.
One of Central New York’s premier jazz vocalists, Nancy Kelly, will showcase her unique vocal style with a free, live performance at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14 during Fulton’s Jazz Fest.
“Disney’s 101 Dalmations Kids” features a cast of about 60 area youth ranging in age from 3 to 17 and, is an example a case of a show being performed by children for children. This idea falls in line with The Oswego Children’s Theater’s goal of providing area children the opportunity to experience live theater performances.
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) announced today that the 42nd Infantry Division Band will perform in Oswego on July 24.
Harborfest 2010 has added the X-Squad Water Ski Show to the list of programming scheduled for this year’s festival. On July 24, the X-Squad will perform two one-hour shows along the north shore of Breitbeck Park.
