Oswego Film Group Presents Night of the Demon & Let the Right One In

To celebrate Halloween this year, the Oswego Film Group (OFG) presents a double feature: free screenings starting at 6:30 PM on Monday, October 25 of Night of the Demon plus Let the Right One In. A discussion will follow the screenings in the Community Room of the Oswego Public Library. (For those planning to attend only the second feature, Let the Right One In, please arrive by 7:45 PM; the library doors close at 8 PM).

The classic British suspense/horror film Night of the Demon (1957) was directed by Jacques Tourneur (best known for atmospheric thrillers such as Cat People, made with producer Val Lewton). When director Martin Scorsese selected his picks for the “11 Scariest Horror Movies” for the website The Daily Beast, he included this film, noting that “Tourneur made this picture about ancient curses near the end of his career, but it’s as potent as his films for Val Lewton. Forget the demon itself—again, it’s what you don’t see that’s so powerful.”

Also on the bill is Let the Right One In (which OFG presented in May 2009 on the SUNY Oswego campus). With the film’s American remake Let Me In currently showing in theaters, the timing seemed right for a rescreening of the original. Based on a Swedish bestseller by John Ajvide Lindqvist, the story of a lonely boy’s friendship with the mysterious girl next door proves to be an exceptional vampire tale. The film was described by director Guillermo del Toro as a “chilling fairy tale. As delicate, haunting and poetic a film as you’re ever bound to see.”
