Oswego Opera Embarks On 30th Season

Oswego Opera commemorates its 30th season with a festive weekend of opera, fine food and celebration. Opening on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. at Waterman Theatre, will be George Bizet’s ever popular Carmen. A young professional cast will dazzle audiences, singing a powerful, new English translation.

Fort Ontario Ghost Tours

Fort Ontario State Historic Site will offer its popular guided ghost tours on October 23, 24, and 25, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.   Tickets are available by advance purchase only and cost $8.00 for the public and $5.00 for Friends of Fort Ontario members.  Tours are scheduled in ten minute increments, group sizes are limited, and no walk-ons are allowed.  Call Roberta Elmer at (315) 343-4711 from 7 AM to 2 PM for tickets and reservations.

Oswego State Downtown Gallery To Feature Horse-Driven Imagery

</p>"Equine Photography by Carien Schippers," opening Oct. 9 at Oswego State Downtown, features Schippers' photographs of horse drives in America and England. Large-scale images like "Silhouette" can be seen through Nov. 30 at the college's shop and gallery on the corner of West First and Bridge streets in downtown Oswego. For more information, call 216-4985.

The display will feature large-scale photographs of horse drives as well as the cowboys who regularly herd the animals to distant locations. It reflects Schippers’ lifetime interest in the horse subject and her desire to capture their spirit and beauty while pursuing fresh, unique and creative perspectives.

SUNY Oswego Guitar Symposium To Offer Concerts, Workshops

</p>SUNY Oswego's Guitar Symposium, Nov. 8 and 9 at the lakeside campus, will feature concerts and intimate workshops with top genre guitarists. Headliners include Jeff Linsky, whom the Los Angeles Times called "the finest finger-style guitarist you will ever see or hear." For more information, visit www.oswego.edu/guitar.

The Guitar Symposium will incorporate classical finger style, funk, fusion and traditional, Brazilian and gypsy jazz into its workshops, master classes and performances. Artists doubling as instructors will include Jeff Linksy, Oz Noy, Peter Bernstein and Frank Vignola. The symposium will feature a concert by the Brasil Guitar Duo.
