Sandra Scott Travels: Enjoy A ‘Day Trip’ To Kingston

We Central New Yorkers are fortunate because we have the opportunity for many great day trips including ones to Canada. Getting to Kingston is half the fun. I like taking the ferry from Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island. The ride is only 10 minutes; the ferry runs frequently until mid-October and has been family-owned for more than 200 years.

Sandra Scott Travels: Oswego’s Safe Haven Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Recently I attended a dinner theater presentation at the Oswego Foundry dealing with Safe Haven. The play was written by Michael Nupuf and Laura Lowrie and directed by Richard Mosher. It portrayed the life and times of a fictional family. I have read Ruth Gruber’s book “Haven.” I think it should be compulsory reading for students in Oswego County and elsewhere.

Sandra Scott Travels: Explore America’s Miltary History and More

The Hudson River corridor is dotted with a plethora of historical sites along with a variety of other interesting places to visit. Located on a vantage point above the Hudson River, West Point is America’s oldest continuously garrisoned Army installation, the nation’s first engineering school, and the home of the United States Corps of Cadets since 1802.

Sandra Scott Travels: Around The World One Restaurant At A Time

Portland may not be where the food truck culture started, but the food trucks have taken it by storm. One nice thing about a food truck caravan is that everyone can have what they like. Sandra Scott Travels: Volcanoes Aren’t Extinct In America

Sunday, May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted.
I remember the year because in September 1980, when the new school year started, my class had a brand new red textbook. The first chapter dealt with the geography of the United States. One sentence read in essence, “There are no active volcanoes in the coterminous United States.”

Sandra Scott Travels: Retracing The Trek Along The Oregon Trail

The Willamette Valley is a 150-mile long valley in Oregon and was the terminus of the Oregon Trail. Some made it, others settled along the way, some branched off and went to California in search of gold. Others died, and some were born on the trail. I have always been fascinated by the Oregon Trail.

Sandra Scott Travels: Explore Some Of Portland’s Notorious Past

I spent Easter in Portland, Oregon, with my son, Jim. One of the things I wanted to do was to check out the Shanghai Tunnels so Jim booked the “Underground Walking Tour.” I had read that, in the 1800s, sailors were not eager so sign up to work on a ship headed to far-flung ports so a contractor would get sailors drunk and put them on a ship headed East.

Sandra Scott Travels: Baja, A Home Away From Home

In the early ’90s, shortly have my son, John, moved to Las Vegas we made a road trip to San Felipe, Mexico, never imagining the decades later he and his wife would buy a beach house there. It was a can’t-pass-up deal mainly because housing prices plummeted when the housing market went south so there were great deals to be had.
