Lilo and Stitch are sister and brother. They love each other so much, they have made a formal request to be adopted together! Stitch is a gorgeous all-black kitten who is as playful and rambunctious as can be. Lilo is a curious, black and white cow-spotted beauty.
Buddy is a kitten we rescued from a feral situation back in October with his brothers and sister. We have spent several months socializing with them and encouraging positive human interactions. Buddy is very handsome, but still a scared little boy.
Continuing on about making 2018 the Year of Kindness, another purpose of this column is to provide animal lovers with information about upcoming legislation, good or bad, that affects animals. Because sometimes you just have to make people do what is right or make them stop doing what is wrong. You need to be heard on these legislative initiatives and the very best way to make yourself heard is to simply call your local legislator.
He was rescued from under a trailer out in the country after his elderly owner had to go to a nursing home. You would think he had been a pampered house cat his whole life (well except for his bunged up ear, probably from being attacked by an animal or maybe frost bite.) He is a sturdy handsome Tuxedo who loves people, complete strangers even.
Continuing on about making 2018 the Year of Kindness, part of the point of this column is to provide guidance and advice to pet owners about their own pets and their responsibilities toward them. We know, because we see it every day, that sometimes, no matter how much you love your pets, you may have to make the hard choice to give them up. Maybe you lost your job, or your house, or you have a sudden illness in the family, or someone in the family develops a serious allergy.
Shadow is a quiet calm friendly boy about two years old. He is fond of the other cats in his foster home and loves to cuddle with his buddy, Scruffy, and with his people. He tolerates the rottie in his foster home.
Continuing on from last week’s column about the story of Jack in the Box and making 2018 the Year of Kindness, we had planned to tell you today about how the Oswego County Humane Society can help when you have a pet that needs a home and you think you may have run out of options. And we will get to that eventually, but today, in light of the weather, we want to talk about the issue of apparently homeless pets out in the cold. We all know that cold like we are experiencing now can kill animals. So we are asking all of you to do the right thing.
You may have read the recent Pet of the Week column about Jack in the Box or maybe you saw it on Facebook or received an email from the Oswego County Humane Society. They told you about Jack, the cat taped up in a box and left by the side of the road on a frigid December day. Luckily, he was rescued by some kind-hearted strangers who took him for vet care and he is fine now at the Humane Society and hoping to find a new safe home. But we have been thinking about Jack ever since then and the level of cruelty that he was exposed to.
Emily has a New Year’s resolution, she’s going to get on the treadmill and lose some weight! Seriously, she has been with us for more than two months now and we think she is bored. She definitely enjoys sitting in the window. She plays when you put a toy right in front of her. But, she’s not a fast cat and she is surely not hyper.
It’s that time of year again when people start thinking, however reluctantly, about the new year and whether they should be making New Year’s Resolutions. As a general rule, we have no opinion about whether you should join a gym or eat less or read more, because, to be honest, none of that affects us. But here is what you could do that we heartily endorse . . .
