Pet of the Week – Snickers

Don’t worry about Snickers’ eye. It’s fine, she just ALWAYS closes at least one eye when you try to take her picture. She is a pretty muted calico tortie with an impish personality. She’ll play with people, just not “up close” – so laser pointers and fishing pole type toys are her favorites. She happily sleeps with the other cats in her foster home and plays with them, too.

Pet of the Week – Barn Cats Need Lovin’, Too

For a variety to reasons – sometimes because we have taken in a mother and her kittens and the mother was trying to survive on her own and was never well-socialized, sometimes because we take in kittens that are just a little too old to socialize easily, we end up with cats in foster care who will probably never be happy as house cats.

Pet of the Week – Gemma

Gemma was found in Central Square and rescued by a kind lady who already had a houseful of kitties of her own. February is Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, so we thought we would remind you of the important health and behavioral benefits of spaying and neutering pets. If this sounds like another lecture . . . it is. And we hope you will memorize this information and nag and/or irritate your neighbors until they get all their pets spayed and neutered just as you have!

Porky and Buddy Pet Health – The Pet Overpopulation Crisis

Someone just told me that over the course of six years, one female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs, and over the course of seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats. She was trying to persuade me to have my cat spayed before she has any kittens. But honestly, if those figures were true, wouldn’t we be up to our elbows in cats and dogs?
