Students at Hastings-Mallory Elementary recently introduced a very special visitor to their school. Published poet Rachel Guido deVries worked with fourth and fifth grade students to help them learn how to tap into their poetic creativity.
Boasting a score of 91.1 at the USBANDS competition in Massachusetts, they achieved the highest score of all ten bands that were competing at the show. The next day, they fought through the remnants of Hurricane Matthew and secured yet another first place victory at the New York State Field Band Conference competition at Arlington High School with an 85.7 total score.
Local Reality Check members from Fulton Central School District and Syracuse Central School District will travel to Marcellus to join other New York State Reality Check members on the ropes at Orenda Springs Experiential Learning Center. The best way to prevent repeated offenses by juvenile offenders is to offer them education, support and encouragement. The Salvation Army’s Bridging the Gap Between Youth and Communities program does just that and is showing good success in the Oswego area.
