New York State is offering two-hour training sessions for residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. In Oswego, a session will be held at 6 p.m. July 30, in SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall ballroom.
The College at Brockport, State University of New York, recently honored students who excelled academically by naming them to the Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester.
The Oswego County Real Property Tax Service will sell up to 120 parcels of tax delinquent properties at the annual tax property auction Aug. 2, at Oswego High School, Buccaneer Boulevard. Bidder registration begins at 8 a.m. and the auction will start at 10:30 a.m.
The Oswego County Salvation Army officers and volunteers are working very hard to make up for the shortfall in last year’s Christmas kettle campaign. Toward that end they will be providing parking and a chicken barbecue during Harborfest. All profits from both projects will be used to support the food pantries, soup kitchens and other services to people in need throughout Oswego County.
For many, the picture of homelessness is someone living on the street with what few possessions they own stuffed in plastic bags and trying to find any shelter they can from the elements. The reality however is that homelessness exists in many forms.
In an effort to help local businesses and attractions reach potential visitors in the Finger Lakes region, the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning has offered to underwrite a portion of the cost of listings in the Finger Lakes “Go and Do” app.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging will distribute Farmers’ Market Coupon Booklets between July 17 and 31. The booklets, which are valued at $20, may be used at participating farmers’ markets.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District will be hosting a ‘Coffee and Conversation’ series with Anita Murphy, the district’s new superintendent of schools. The coffee chats are informal conversations with the superintendent, open to parents, students and interested community members.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Infrastructure, Facilities and Technology Committee presented Bertram “Butch” Drought with a certificate of appreciation for his 36 years of service.
