Kyle Doppelheuer, a first grader at Michael A. Maroun, embodies the school’s word of the month, citizenship. Doppelheuer is a budding philanthropist, and has provided many service hours to the community.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau is excited about a new opportunity available to kids and families to help them attend Camp Hollis this summer! Families who qualify can send their 9- to 14-year-old children to camp for a week at no cost to the family. Oswego County families that fall under the 200 percent poverty guidelines may qualify for assistance with camp fees.
When Congress enacted the Older Americans Act to address the social services needs of older people it was seen as a major vehicle for promoting the delivery of social services to seniors. Its mission was to help older people maintain maximum independence in their homes and communities and to promote a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly.
Wheaton College student Timothy Miller of Richland was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester.
Dennis Pawlikowski, a math teacher at Oswego Middle School in Oswego City School District, spent June 4-7 in New Orleans participating in TeachFest, a unique professional development event focused on creating high-quality Common Core curricular resources. Pawlikowski attended the event as part of LearnZillion’s Dream Team of 200 talented math and English language arts (ELA) teachers.
On June 1, George A. Reed, Assistant Grand Lecturer, and District Deputy Grand High Priest John B. Covell made their annual official visit to Lake Ontario No. 165 Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. The Royal Arch Masons enjoyed a ham supper together, prepared by Lake City Victoria Eastern Star at their Chapter located at 765 E. Seneca St., Oswego.
Members of the Oswego County BOCES Deaf and Hard of Hearing Club were recently invited to an anti-bullying presentation at the Fulton Junior High School. The speaker was Matt Hamill, a deaf wrestler and MMA fighter.
