The National Education Association’s Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on or around March 2, which is popular children’s author, Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County in collaboration with Oswego County Soil and Water, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the United State Department Of Agriculture Farm Service Agency will be sponsoring a workshop for agriculture producers on how each of these agencies can assist them when everything doesn’t go to plan. Dr. Rani Jha, master painter and teacher at the Mithila Art Institute in Madhubani, stopped at Volney Elementary in late February to give students a lesson in art and culture.
After months of rehearsals, members of the John C. Birdlebough Drama Club are ready to take the stage for their spring musical production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Set in New York City in 1922, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is about a young girl from Kansas who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself.
Sandy Creek High School will present the musical Oliver on March 14 and 15. Showtimes will be at 6 p.m. on both days. Tickets for the show are $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for adults and will be available at the door.
The Lura Sharp Elementary School production of “Aladdin” will be held on March 14 and 15 with Friday’s show at 7 p.m. in the elementary school auditorium and a matinee performance on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets for the show are $3 for adults, children under four are free.
Student’s musical talents were on display March 4 when they took the stage at EJD. An Evening of Jazz featured the EJD Jazz Band, the Phoenix Varsity Jazz Band and special guests, All That Jazz.
Oswego County Sheriff Reuel A. Todd has announced that four Boating Safety Courses will be held beginning in April. There is no charge for the training.
On the local level the ENACTUS organization is a club whose mission is to empower people in need by applying business and economic concepts in an entrepreneurial approach to improve the quality of life and standard of living.
