On October 29, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at River Vista Center in Fulton from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Displaying seven paintings now until September, Michael Lynne shares his work and eye for beauty in overlooked places with the Oswego community.
During the August 13 regular meeting of the Board of Education the board members discussed filling the seat left vacant with the resignation of James Tschudy. The members of the board will consider all applicants for the position.
The eighth and final concert in the Oswego Summer Sunset Concert Series will be held August 21 at 7 p.m. at Breitbeck Park in Oswego. The 17-piece Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Stan Gosek, will be performing this week.
Scheduled for September 7 the CAC Blue Ribbon Ride Against Child Abuse, a 70-mile ride throughout Oswego County, will begin at 3 p.m. at Wheel-Away Motorsports Route 57 in Fulton and end at Lighthouse Lanes, Shampine Drive in Oswego at approximately 5 p.m.
Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership has recently secured funding for an additional five years to provide free cancer screenings to uninsured men and women aged 40-64 including clinical breast exams, mammogram, pap/pelvic exams and more.
ARISE is pleased to announce the start of a new program that will make it possible for people to remain at home. Made possible through support from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, the Housing Options Made through E-modifications (HOME) program will cover the cost of minor interior home modifications that become necessary due to mobility issues.
Marene Hogan has served the students of the Oswego City School District for 30 years. Her retirement was accepted by the Oswego Board of Education at the August 13 meeting. Also recognized, but not present, were retirees Gail Iosue and Christine Sharkey.
Residents at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego learned some new facts about animals, some familiar to our area, which are a part of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse; and even got to meet a few up close! Residents learned about the habits and habitats of eastern box turtles, opossums and parrots and were able to ask questions of the Gifford Zoo’s outreach educators who provided the program.
The Oswego Public Library recently learned from the Northern New York Library Network that they have been approved to digitize their collection of “Ontario Chronicle” the newsletter published during “Safe Haven” at Fort Ontario. The collection consists of approximately 27 newsletters covering the period of November 8, 1944, to August 2, 1945.
