The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, long-term home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.

The CNY Arts Center has announced last month’s recipient of its volunteer recognition award. The center relies on volunteers to assist with its many activities. It recently initiated a volunteer awards program to acknowledge the work of those who contribute to the center’s mission and goals. The Volunteer of the Month for June is Kendra Matott.

The “4 the Love of Reading” Award was presented to students at the Frederick Leighton Elementary School. Long-time educator Norma Barnes retired from the district several years ago, but her support of her former school continues.

Mohawk Valley Community College, located in Utica and Rome, is proud to announce the names of students whose high academic performance has qualified them for recognition as members of the Vice President’s List for the recently completed Spring 2013 semester.

Twenty-five deputy sheriffs and civilian staff working in the civil law enforcement divisions from 18 sheriff’s offices around the state  recently attended a week-long continuing training program at the office of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute in Albany.

The H. Lee White Museum and Maritime Center is swabbing the decks for a hearty afternoon of pirate carousing. Brush off your eye patch, grab your parrot and sign up for a Kids’ Pirate Party on July 11 or 24 (10 a.m. – noon).

The second annual art camp will return July 15-19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 357 State St., Fulton. Students, ages 5-15, choose art, dance, writing or theater followed by lunch provided and afternoon group projects.

The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on July 21, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be hamburgers and Hoffman hot dogs, macaroni salad, baked beans, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.

Our Scriba Food Pantry has served thousands of meals over the years to many residents in the town of Scriba. In fact, we’ve given out more than 1000 meals in just the last three months. We have recently lost some much needed funding.
