State Senator Patty Ritchie announced Monday she has secured a special, $50,000 grant to provide a school resource officer for the Central Square School District. School Resource Officers, commonly known as SROs, are law enforcement officials, stationed at schools and tasked with improving safety and security.
The College at Brockport, State University of New York, recently honored students who excelled academically by naming them to the President’s List for the spring 2013 semester.
The students in Candy McCann’s first grade class at Granby Elementary School are in the digital age and created interactive presentations to prove it. The students finished their end-of-year projects but instead of turning in a paper report each student created a PowerPoint presentation of their research.
Physical Education classes at Leighton School in Oswego were transformed into summer safety lessons on roads with signs, crosswalks and even mountains.
To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be attending the university full-time and attain at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.
Oswego native Chelsea Bartlett becomes the second Oswego Harborfest intern to take on a staff position in as many years as she was recently named Volunteer Coordinator for the 26th festival which runs from July 25 through 28. Former intern Dorothy Strahley will complete her second year as the staff’s Vendor Coordinator with the conclusion of the 2013 event.
Oswego County Opportunities, one of the top 10 largest private employers in Oswego County, has welcomed eight new members to the agency’s staff. The new employees, who will join the OCO’s staff of human services professionals, recently completed the agency’s orientation process and will begin to serve consumers in their respective programs.
Students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School ended the year with a trip around the globe and they didn’t even need to leave their school. The school’s physical education teaching team in cooperation with the APW Parent-Teacher-Student Association coordinated the first ever World Field Day for students in universal pre-kindergarten through grade six.
Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like OCO to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer. Funded through the New York State Education Department, the Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to all children 18 years and under.
