June Is Dairy Month In Oswego County
Oswego County legislators Amy Tresidder and Terry Wilbur presented a proclamation designating June as Dairy Month to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County at the June meeting of the full Legislature.
A Fond Farewell at Granby Elementary
On the last day of classes in the Fulton schools, the Granby Gator School Mascot made a special visit to wish five friends a very happy final day of school. The Gator recognized and thanked those members of the Granby Elementary staff who are retiring at the end of this school year. These educators have touched hundreds of lives in the Fulton schools in many different ways and they will be greatly missed.
Schmidt To Retire
The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee recently presented Laurence Schmidt with a certificate of appreciation for his 31 years of service to the county. Schmidt will retire from his position as administrator of the Oswego County Office for the Aging.
Literacy benefit
In honor of the 90th anniversary of its founding, SUNY Oswego’s Alpha Sigma Chi sorority coordinated a book drive titled “Have You Red Today?” during the college’s reunion weekend in June. The sorority collected more than 600 new and gently used children’s books to benefit the Oswego County Literacy Coalition.
FitzGibbons OHS June Athletes of the Month Cited
Involved in the presentation were John FitzGibbons, varsity baseball player Brandon Schultzkie, varsity lacrosse member Alexa Healy, river’s end owner Bill Reilly and Buc Booster Club President Judy Dunsmoor.
Whitney Gayne Graduates from Elmira College
Elmira College held its 158th Commencement on June 2 at the First Arena, in Elmira. Whitney Gayne of Mexico earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Stregthening Girls For The Future
This summer, the Fulton Family YMCA and the Youth 4 Youth Program are collaborating in order to bring a new program to our youth, Girls Rock. The Girls Rock program is designed for tween girls to learn values and positive behaviors, in order to make smarter life choices. They will also be given an opportunitiy to explore their unique talents and interests, while being allowed to realize their potential.
NYSDOT Schedules Open House About Mexico Culvert Replacement Project
The New York State Department of Transportation will hold an open house meeting on June 26 regarding a culvert replacement project on routes 3 and 104 over Black Creek in the village of Mexico. The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Mexico High School library. Preliminary drawings for the upcoming project will be available for review. No formal presentation is planned.
