The Oswego County Health Department will hold its 23rd annual best tasting drinking water contest Thursday at the Oswego Farmers’ Market on West First Street. Visitors will vote for their favorite samples of drinking water from municipal systems in Oswego County.

The SUNY Oswego GENIUS Olympiad finals open Monday, June 17, welcoming more than 400 competitors and their mentors from around the world, including Kayla Vidal and Bilgenur Sirin of the Syracuse Academy of Science. “We are very excited for the Oswego competition,” said the charter school juniors, who studied the effects on Lake Ontario water quality of fireworks shows at events such as Harborfest.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District inducted Jean Paternoster and David C. Phelps into the APW Athletic Wall of Fame during the annual varsity athletic awards banquet, held this year in early June.

The Cayuga Community College Foundation and the Auburn/Cayuga Community College Alumni Association recently presented 24 area high school seniors with scholarships to help cover the cost of tuition and expenses when they begin their studies at Cayuga this fall.
The Sandra Harrison Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to an Oswego High School senior. This scholarship recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement and student involvement in the school community. However, this scholarship has an additional dimension.
The family event, which included a chicken BBQ, bake sale, entertainment by Jammin’ Beats, door prizes, 50/50 raffles, games and crafts, was organized by the Parents of Special Children staff and board members.
We had an interesting conversation yesterday with another animal lover who told us about her middle aged cat, Annabelle, who “suddenly last summer” stopped using her litter box. The box was and always had been located in their finished basement in the exact same location and there had been no sudden changes in the household.
