The 31st Annual Academic Awards Night was held this week at G. Ray Bodley High School. The prestigious ceremony recognized students in grades nine through twelve for outstanding scholastic achievement and excellence throughout the academic school year. Scholarship and monetary awards were presented on behalf of colleges and universities along with memorial awards in honor of former staff members and community members.
An Oswego family in need will receive a ramp thanks to a special collaboration between Morningstar Care Center and ARISE. Morningstar recently formed a new employee group called the Impact Committee that is dedicated to making a difference in the local community.
The Cayuga Community College Student Activities Board recently held its annual appreciation banquet at the Highland Park Golf Club in Auburn to recognize the contribution of students who participated in the wide range of clubs and organizations at the college.
Oswego Health has once again been named a sponsor of the Tri-Oswego Triathlon, which will be held Saturday, June 15th in Oswego, New York, according to Tri-Oswego Race Director Shane Broadwell.
The auditions are scheduled for June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. and June 15 also from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Haven Congregational Church located on Route 104 East between Oswego and Mexico.
Third, fourth and fifth grade students from across central New York will participate in ceremonies commemorating the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States of America on June 14, 1777. Fort Ontario was the site of two French and Indian War and two War of 1812 battles.
During a luncheon ceremony in May, Cayuga Community College recognized 66 first-year nursing students for their academic and clinical accomplishments and their success in “moving up” to the second year of the rigorous program.

The “Community Service Award” is given by the Rotarians to a person, or persons in the community who perform several acts that exemplify the Rotary Motto, “Service Above Self.” The 52nd Award was presented on May 16 to Lori Lyons, by club president Charrise Kidd.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian Tracie Pluff-Gioia introduced Robert Lighthall, the STOP DWI NY Oswego County Program coordinator. He demonstrated a suspected DWI traffic stop procedure and simulated driving while intoxicated symptoms.
