The Hannibal Historical Society will meet on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center on Oswego Street in Hannibal for a business meeting, including the election of officers. Members and friends are reminded to make reservations for the society’s annual banquet to be held on June 3 at 6:30 p.m.
On May 1, Eric Schneiderman, the New York State Attorney General, announced an Animal Protection Initiative aimed at shutting down criminal animal fighting rings, ensuring compliance with New York State’s Pet Lemon Law, charging and prosecuting those who abuse or neglect animals, and cracking down on the abuses of “puppy mills” in order to protect the welfare of the animals being sold and consumers.
May is National Community Action Month, a time to celebrate the efforts of Community Action Agencies across the country as they fight poverty. It highlights their role in helping low-income families move out of poverty and achieve economic security. Each year, Community Action Agencies serve 20 million people in rural, suburban and urban communities across the country through a variety of targeted programs.

For the first time in years, the college is offering the notary public workshop as an evening program, from 6 to 9:30 May 16, at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center in the Oswego County Industrial Park off State Route 481 in Phoenix.
Families who want to learn more about Camp Hollis are invited to an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. May 19. Parents and children can tour the camp, see sleeping cabins and other facilities, meet the staff and enjoy samples of camp activities. The camp is located on Lakeshore Road in the Town of Oswego.
The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on May 19. Serving will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be baked chicken, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.

Lee White Marine Museum and Maritime Center is partnering with the Department of Technology at SUNY Oswego and Raby’s ACE Home Center to offer a Boat Building Weekend here in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District. On June 28, 29 and 30, you and your family can join in an instructional, hands-on program that culminates in a completed boat for your family’s use.
With a successful start to programming and events in its State Street facility, CNY Arts Center is expanding its community presence with the soft opening of Arts in the Heart Gallery in downtown Fulton at 47 S. First St. A grand opening open house is scheduled for June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with harpist Marcella Slater performing from 2 to 4 p.m.
Herkimer County Community College announces candidates for the College’s 45th annual commencement to be held May 17 at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Building.
