Museum Marks 100th Anniversary Of The Sinking Of the Titanic

Lee White Marine Museum is pleased to unveil a new, temporary exhibit entitled “Titanic: Commemorating the 100th Anniversary.” The exhibit will run Oct. 15, through Nov. 15.

Central Square Walmart to host Food Drive

Christa Harvey, Community Relations and John Rizzo, Co-Manager of the Walmart Supercenter on Route 49 in Central Square collect food items in preparation for a food drive that the store will be hosting on Saturday, October 15th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The donations will support food pantries in the northern region of Oswego County.Walmart volunteers, along with representatives from food pantries in Bernhard’s Bay, Redfield and the Sandy Creek / Lacona area will be on hand to accept donations of non-perishable food items.

Oswego County Buys Energy-Efficient Car for Courier Service

Oswego County government is looking at new ways to implement “green” technology and save taxpayer dollars. Pictured is the Oswego County Clerk’s new messenger vehicle. The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta claims 43 miles per gallon and is projected to save the county nearly $3,000 a year in fuel costs. The logo was designed by Oswego County’s “Green Team” and illustrates the county’s commitment to conserve its natural resources and explore alternative energy sources such as solar, water, and wind. Pictured from left are Oswego County Courier Robin Wilson, Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry D. Leemann, Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Director David Turner, Oswego County Solid Waste Director Frank Visser and Oswego County Clerk George Williams.The Oswego County Clerk’s Office purchased a new “green” car for its courier service. This vehicle travels nearly 50,000 miles each year between auto dealers in Onondaga County and NYS Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices in Oswego County.

The Oswego County Board of Elections reminds residents that the last date that new voter registrations can be filed in person is Friday, Oct.14. New registrations sent in the mail must be postmarked by Oct. 14 and received by Oct. 19.

Oswego County Nutrition Collaboration Celebrates National Food Day

 Representatives from the Oswego County Nutrition Collaboration, Amy Roland (l), Director of Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services, and Bridget Dolbear (r), Program Coordinator, prepare a donation of food to be delivered to area food pantries. In recognition of National Food Day, October 24th, the Oswego County Nutrition Collaboration is asking community members to donate non-perishable food items to their local pantry. For more information on the Nutrition Collaboration of Oswego County, or to locate the food pantry nearest you, contact Amy Roland at 315-598-4712, ext. 1811.The Oswego County Nutrition Collaboration invites you to join them in their celebration of National Food Day, October 24th.
