Trooper Shaun Smith was swimming laps at the Northwest Family YMCA in Lysander when a 12-year-old Baldwinsville boy went into cardiac arrest in the pool. “It really was a team effort,” Trooper Smith said. “I’m happy the four of us happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

State Senator Patty Ritchie announced she has secured $50,000 to assist the Fulton Public Library with repairs and renovations to its building. “Libraries are more than just places to find books. They’re important centers of learning and growth in our local communities,” said Senator Ritchie.
Marion Blumenthal Lazan, a Holocaust survivor, recently provided a message of hope, strength and love to the students of Central Square Middle School; a message that she has shared with the school for more than 10 consecutive years.
On Friday, May 27, investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force executed Superior Court arrest warrants on Adam M. Bell and Karisha C. Loveless. The arrest warrants were issued by Oswego County Court as a result of a grand jury indicting the two for the possession and sale of heroin.
Memorial Day weekend kicked off in Fulton with a successful 35th annual Memorial Day Salute. Hundreds of community members and even some from neighboring communities lined the street to watch the Memorial Day Parade as dozens of entries supporting this year’s theme of “Support Our Veterans” enthusiastically marched across the city. The commemoration continued on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) morning when a group of community members and veterans followed through a police escort to accompany the Honor Guard as they held ceremonies at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mt. Adnah Cemetery and the Fulton War Memorial Veterans’ Area. The escort ended at Veteran’s Park across from Fulton City Hall where Fulton City Police blocked off the road to allow spectators to line the street to observe the ceremony held in remembrance of the many military members that took the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.
The Fulton City School District Board of Education approved four new course offerings that will serve as dual enrollment providing high school students with college course credits. The board heard from high school principal Donna Parkhurst as she presented the courses and what they offer to students. While the school already partners with Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, SUNY ESF, SUNY Oswego and Rochester Institute of Technology to total more than 20 college courses already offered, the four new courses will be offered through CCC.
On Thursday, State Police arrested Kaitlin Johnson and Jesse Olcott, both of Elderberry Lane, Central Square, for Offering a False Instrument for Filing, a class “E” felony. Olcott was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree. These arrests follow an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on US Route 11 in front of Brewerton Speedway on May 13.
