Annual Memorial Day Celebration Brings Fun to Fulton

Memorial Day weekend brings out the bands, food, fun and a lot of red, white and blue for Fulton’s annual Memorial Day Salute. People of all ages gathered along both sides of Broadway/Route 3 to watch the parade commence. The excitement continued at the carnival in the War Memorial parking lot full of rides and games and entertainment and food in the ice rink, followed by fireworks at night.

Thank You for Placing Flags in Fulton Cemeteries

On May 16, several local adult and student volunteers from the Fulton Raider Modified, Junior Varsity and Varsity Lacrosse teams answered the call from the Fulton American Legion, Fulton VFW Post #569, Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., and Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home to help our local veterans ready the two local cemeteries for Memorial Day. The morning was a complete success.

Oswego County Holds First-Ever Olympiad

Phoenix School District hosted the first Oswego County Olympiad at Phoenix High School on May 14. Parents and families crowded the stands as exceptional children with a wide range of different disabilities flooded the sports arena to participate in the Olympiad events. While some of these students have competed in Syracuse’s Olympiad in previous years, this is the first time that Oswego County has held its own event.

Fulton School Budget Passes Despite Low Voter Turnout

Fulton residents took to their local polling places Tuesday to cast their votes for the 2015-2016 school elections. The proposed budget for the coming school year was approved with 368 votes in favor and 262 votes against. Voters approved the $68.6 million 2015-2016 school district budget, a $1.3 million increase from the current year’s budget. Incumbents Daniel Pawlewicz and Timothy Crandell sought re-election. They ran unopposed. Crandell received 396 votes while Pawelewicz, current vice president of the board, received 391 votes.

Holocaust Survivor Delivers Message Of Hope To Fulton Students

Students in the Fulton City School District recently received a firsthand account of life in Europe during World War II, as Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan spoke to fifth and sixth grade students about the troubled childhood she was forced to live in Nazi Germany. For nearly two hours Lazan shared her life story, and often paused to reinforce the importance of perseverance, determination, faith and most importantly, hope.
