On Tuesday, the Common Council approved the sale of the former Valero gas station on West First Street. The building has been on the market for almost six years, and was purchased by a local man who hopes to renovate the building and create a business he can pass down.
Jean Siracusa, a beloved biology teacher at Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus, was recognized with the WCNY Women Who Make America Award. She was one of 17 Central New York women to receive the award, which pays tribute to those whose lives enrich local communities and help shape the nation’s identity.
Operation Uplink was launched in 1996 to connect active-duty troops and hospitalized veterans with their loved ones. The program uses contributions from supporters to purchase phone time for the men and women who are serving, or have served, as well as hospitalized veterans.

State Police in Lee arrested Justin K. Empson, 23, from 9 Chinook Lane in Altmar, NY, for Grand Larceny 4th degree, a class “E” felony. Empson was charged after he allegedly attempted to steal $1,214.43 in merchandise from the Walmart Store in Rome.
