UPDATED with comments from Assemblyman Will Barclay and Senator Patty Ritchie. After more than 100 years in Fulton, the Birds Eye Foods plant will cease to exist at the end of the year. Plant officials announced this morning (April 15) that the facility will close its doors for good in December. Employees got the news at a meeting at the Fulton War Memorial.

He’s Edmund P. “Pete” Backus of Pulaski, a retired former Superintendent of Schools who has held short-term stints in the Mexico school district.
Backus will serve for an entire year, beginning in July.
Congressman Bill Owens will hold a “telephone town hall” this week. Owens will update callers on the state of Medicare as it relates to recent budget proposals, and take questions from callers from 11:00 a.m. to noon this Thursday, April 14. Fulton Board of Education members approved a budget for 2011-12 Tuesday night that raises taxes about 3.5% while cutting spending, eliminating more than 20 positions and reducing two academic programs praised for keeping students in school.
