Hannibal Voters To Decide Whether To Eliminate Board of Education Positions

Voters in Hannibal will decide whether their Board of Education should stay at 9 members or reduce to 7.  The board last week approved putting the question on the May 18 ballot, which includes the district’s proposed budget for 2010 – 2011.  So, if voters pick three new board members, bringing the board back to 9 members, at the same time that they approve cutting the board to 7 members, how will that work?

Former Fultonian Pulled From Crowd To Caddy For Top Pro Golfer

Dr. Tom BuchholzA former Fulton athlete got the sporting thrill of a lifetime recently when he was pulled out of the crowd to carry the clubs of a pro golfer.

And not just any golfer.

Tom Buchholz caddied three holes at the Shell Houston Open for Phil Mickelson, who won golf’s most important event, the Masters, right after that.

Hannibal Board Restores Phys Ed Position, Approves Budget For Public Vote

The Hannibal school board Wednesday night unanimously approved a budget for the next school year. It calls for $25,452,989 in spending, and requires 2.99% tax levy to plug an approx. $1.7m deficit. It resembles the same budget the board rejected last week, with one slight tweak. Instead of eliminating 10 entire teaching positions, this revised version restores a part-time physical education teacher.

Contingency Budget for Fulton Schools Would Be Lower, Would Lower The Boom on Community Groups

On any average night, Fulton school buildings are alive with activity. A youth sports league team may be practicing on school district fields. A Neighborhood Watch group or Girl Scout troop may be meeting in a classroom. A volleyball league may be playing in an elementary school gym.

None of these groups is a part of the Fulton City School District, yet each one has a stake in the outcome of next month’s budget vote.
