New Poll: Owens Holds Lead, While Dueling Republicans Fight For Second Place

A new poll in the race for Congress from our area shows that there may be two contests underway.

In the main event, Democrat Bill Owens continues to hold a lead over Dede Scozzafava and Doug Hoffman.

But it’s the other fight that’s capturing national attention, the fight between the moderate and the conservative Republicans for the soul of the Republican party.

Today, news that the girls varsity soccer team fell out of playoff contention with a loss.  It was a hard day all around as the girls swim team lost, as did both cross country teams.  Also today, a preview involving that team in the photo above, as Fulton prepares to meet Carthage in the Section III playoffs.

I’m starting a new occasional feature — highlighting data that shines a light on our county and our communities.  Our governments produce floods of data.  We hope to spoon out a few ounces as it flows by and show you something you might not have known.

Before you click to see the table, play a little guessing game:  The districts are APW, Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico, Oswego, Phoenix, Pulaski and Sandy Creek.  Try to rank them in order, from highest poverty to lowest. Then take a look at the numbers.
