Mayor Billy Barlow announced today, August 6, the city has submitted an application to be considered or Governor Andrew Cuomo’s $300 million Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative to New York State. REDI was announced by Governor Cuomo earlier this year due to high water levels and flooding along the shoreline of Lake Ontario, causing millions of dollars in damage and wreaking havoc all along the shoreline.

On the very site where they shared their first meal together in America 75 years ago today, dozens of former refugees and their families gathered for what quite possibly will be their last meal together.

Today (August 5), Jeffrey A. Carroll, 46, of Little Rock, Arkansas, appeared in Oswego County Court and was sentenced to 2-1/3 to 7 years in state prison upon his conviction for Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree.

“Stay Low in Smoke,” “Get Out, Stay Out,” “Have Two Ways Out” and “Have Working Smoke Detectors” are just a few of the important messages spread to people of all ages at a variety of events. One of the best tools used in this mission is the county fire safety trailer.

Governor Andrew Cuomo visited Oswego on Thursday afternoon, August 1, to go fishing on Lake Ontario. Oswego has a different feel, there’s growth, energy and optimism, the Governor said, acknowledging Mayor Billy Barlow’s leadership. After reeling in a couple of huge salmon, the Governor held a press conference at the Port of Oswego Authority to extol Lake Ontario and the surrounding area.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today, July 31, the creation of a network of security cameras throughout Downtown Oswego to prevent vandalism and offer more protection to public space and property owners.

A big part of the Port City’s renaissance is child’s play. On Tuesday afternoon (July 30), Mayor Billy Barlow and Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul celebrated the re-opening of the Children’s Museum of Oswego.
