The Oswego County Health Department announced today (April 11) that a skunk caught in the city of Oswego last week has tested positive for the rabies virus by the New York State Department of Health.

On the heels of abrupt closures of 14 Friendly’s restaurants across Upstate New York, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today (April 10) urged the federal Department of Labor to investigate the manner by which New York workers were let go this past weekend by the Friendly’s Corporation. According to reports, workers were in the dark and arrived at their jobs only to be told to shut the doors – for good.

The investigation has revealed Zechariah Karboski was operating a 2012 Ford traveling west on Main Street when he struck the rear of a Mexico School District school bus that was stopped in traffic.

“I’m making a direct job offer to the employees of the Oswego Friendly’s location who are facing unemployment due to the sudden and unexpected closure,” he posted on Facebook.

The program aims to promote safe and supportive schools by helping children heal and cope from traumatic events while allowing them to thrive in their educational environments.

The Common Council unanimously approved Local Law No. 5 of the Year 2019. The local law amends Chapter 280, Zoning, Of the Code of the City of Oswego.

On Sunday, April 7, at approximately 7:41 p.m., an Oswego Police Officer attempted to stop a 2013 Gray Infinity G37 on East Seneca Street near George Street in the city of Oswego. The vehicle did not comply with the emergency lights and siren and sped away at a high rate of speed passing multiple vehicles as it left the city of Oswego headed east on County Route 1.

The Port of Oswego Authority has earned national recognition once again. The U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation today (April 8) announced that eight U.S. ports in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System are receiving the agency’s Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award.

The community is invited to review and comment on a draft update to the Oswego County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Oswego County Emergency Management Office will host an open house/public information meeting on April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Oswego County Legislative Chambers, 4th floor, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego.
