The 13th annual St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego is set for Sunday, March 31, at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on East First Street from 1-4 p.m.

Today (March 6), State Police in Pulaski arrested Devon M. Buckner, 23, and Sarah A. Diamond, 28, from 27 Marsden Road in Mexico, for Assault 2nd degree, a class “D” felony and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” misdemeanor.

At Monday night’s Planning and Development Committee, Mayor Billy Barlow requested approval of amendments to the City Plumbing Code regarding water meter bypasses and other amendments.

With Lake Ontario water levels already above average, U.S. Reps. John Katko (NY-24) and Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) today (March 5) sent a bipartisan letter to Lana Pollack, chair of the U.S. Section, International Joint Commission, requesting immediate action to mitigate flood risks for coastal communities.

Oswego is eligible to apply for up to $150,000. The funds would be used to continue the Port City’s crusade to clean up blighted and vacant properties.

Mayor Billy Barlow proposed, and the council voted to update and expand several tax exemptions for Oswego residents 65 years old and older, likely living on fixed incomes. He also asked, and received, approval for two new tax exemptions to city residents.

Organized by members of the all-volunteer Winona Forest Recreation Association, the weekend will feature the IditaFAT fat bike races on Saturday, and the SnoFatShu snowshoe/fat bike duathlon on Sunday.

UPDATE: One of the drivers has died from his injuries.
The investigation has revealed that at approximately 2:40 p.m., today (February 25) a 2013 Toyota operated by Bert D. Hyland, 87, from Bernhards Bay, was traveling eastbound on State Route 49 in the town of West Monroe when he lost control on a snow-covered roadway crossing over the centerline and striking an Oswego County DOT snowplow.
