At its meeting today, March 14, Oswego County legislators urged Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Legislature to fully restore Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) in the final 2019/20 state budget. And, they spoke out against the Governor’s plan to use county sales tax revenues to cover the state’s shortfall.

Spring is almost here and that means we are in preparation for the start of the Springboard Mural Project. Starting our 11th year of artwork, the mural project is actively seeking interested youth artists who would like to create a piece of artwork and paint it in a public space in the city of Oswego. Youth and families are welcome to participate.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (March 12) a $25,000 grant for Southern Fare, a new restaurant coming to downtown Oswego. Local developer Atom Avery plans to demolish the existing Global Buffet building, replacing it with a five-story building consisting of first floor commercial space with residential space on the upper floors including a rooftop bar and terrace.

Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator Robert Lighthall announced today (March 12) that Oswego County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving. The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on March 15 and will end on March 18.

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council unanimously approved proposed Local Law No. 4 of the Year 2019. It creates what the mayor calls a Blight Reduction Loan Program.

Seventy-five years ago, on March 15, 1944, General Order No. 9, Headquarters, Second Service Command, Governors Island, N.Y., took effect and Fort Ontario was placed on “Standby.” Army personnel had already been re-assigned and the few remaining civilian employees were let go in preparation for closing the oldest continuously garrisoned post in the United States.

AmeriCorps Week, March 10 through 16, is an opportunity to recognize AmeriCorps members and their community partners for their positive impact and actions to “Get Things Done” at agencies around the county. As a national service program, AmeriCorps addresses critical needs in local communities across the U.S.

I’d like to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick’s Day and encourage folks to get outdoors, support the event and celebrate our heritage and culture,” Mayor Billy Barlow said. The Oswego Saint Patrick’s Parade will take place Saturday at 1 p.m.
