At the Administrative Services Committee, Mayor Billy Barlow will ask that bids be sought for the following capital projects: General Contracting for building repairs to Safe Haven and the Theater Building located at Fort Ontario Building; Repairs to City Hall; and Street Restoration and widening to Munn Street.

Albion Pair Facing Felony Drug Charges

On Thursday, investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police, executed a narcotics related search warrant at 13 Cemetery St. in Albion. As a result, materials used to manufacture methamphetamine as well as a small amount of methamphetamine were located and seized, according to police.

Public Hearing Set On ‘Social Host’ Law

The tentative local law would make it unlawful for any person older than the age of 18 who owns, rents, or otherwise controls a private residence, to knowingly allow the consumption of alcohol, alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs by any minor (younger than the age of 21) on such premises or to fail to take reasonable corrective action upon learning of the consumption of alcohol, alcoholic beverages or use of illegal drugs by any minor on such premises.

Gillibrand, Schumer Applaude Fort Ontario Study Act Being Signed Into Law

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced Wednesday that their legislation to begin the process of creating a national park site at Fort Ontario was signed into law Tuesday night. The Fort Ontario Study Act will authorize the National Park Service (NPS) to conduct a study to assess the feasibility of incorporating Fort Ontario and the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum in Oswego County as a unit of the National Park Service.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (October 11) the winning projects selected for the city of Oswego Downtown Improvement Fund, part of Oswego’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant secured in 2016. The $545,000 Downtown Improvement Fund project combines individual renovation projects carried out by existing, small business owners in downtown Oswego.

Katko Legislation To Advance Fort Ontario Signed Into Law

Yesterday evening (October 9), bipartisan, bicameral legislation introduced in the House by U.S. Rep. John Katko, the Fort Ontario Study Act, was signed into law by President Donald Trump. “Since coming to Congress in 2015, putting Fort Ontario on the path to becoming a National Park has been among my top priorities. Fort Ontario and Safe Haven National Refugee Shelter are important sites both in our regional history as well as the history of our country,”said Katko.

On Tuesday (October 9) at 9:37 p.m., deputies arrested John M. Holbrook, 50, of 3134 CR 2, Pulaski, for fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony. The arrest stems from the investigation into an incident that occurred in the town of Richland.

Oswego Council Tweaks Winter Parking Policy

On a warm, muggy autumn evening, the Oswego Common Council was planning for the cold, snowy days of winter. At its meeting Tuesday, the council unanimously approved amendments to the Code of the City of Oswego, Chapter 257, Vehicles and Traffic, Section 257-27, Winter Parking Restrictions. The vote was 5-0-2 with councilors Linda DeMassi and John Gosek excused.
