Scriba Adopts 2019 Town Budget

The 2019 budget for the town of Scriba was adopted by the Town Board on October 25, resulting in a 42% tax decrease from one year ago. The $3.6 million town budget results in a town-wide tax of $1.28 per thousand compared to $2.21 per thousand in 2018.

OPD Peacefully Resolves ‘Domestic Incident’

Today (October 28), at approximately 2:30 p.m., Oswego Police responded to an East Fourth Street residence regarding a third party report of a possible domestic incident in which one of the subjects may have been armed and possibly suicidal. Following a brief interview, the subject surrendered to police who took the adult male subject into custody under the NYS Mental Hygiene Law.

Police Identify Suspected Shooter, Victim Still Critical

Oswego Police Investigators, working with the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, have charged 58-year-old Thomas E. Schrader of Oswego with the following: Attempted murder in the second degree. and
Assault in the first degree. The victim, also an Oswego resident, remains in Upstate Medical University Hospital in critical condition and is undergoing medical procedures, police said. The investigation remains on-going and anyone with information should contact Oswego Police at 315-343-1212.

‘Social Host’ Law Approved By Oswego Council

The Common Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve the city’s new “Social Host” law. It makes it unlawful for any person older than the age of 18 who owns, rents, or otherwise controls a private residence, to knowingly allow the consumption of alcohol, alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs by any minor (younger than the age of 21) on such premises or to fail to take reasonable corrective action upon learning of the consumption of alcohol, alcoholic beverages or use of illegal drugs by any minor on such premises.

Firefighters Battle Kitchen Blaze

Oswego Firefighters made quick work of a kitchen fire on East Seneca Street in Oswego this afternoon (October 22). The fire was confined to the kitchen with smoke and water damage to the first floor and basement. No injuries were reported.
