The Oswego County Historical Society cordially invites the public to celebrate the holiday season for the annual Christmas Open House at the Richardson-Bates House Museum at 135 E. Third St. in Oswego on December 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. A special theme for this year is “The 1918 Christmas to Remember” that took place at the Richardson-Bates House as recalled by a young Sally Bates.

There is a lot to be thankful for this year. Several people have told Oswego County Today that they are thankful for snowblowers and plows that helped them cope with the recent visit from Old Man Winter. Others, like Adele DeSalvio, are giving thanks for their “family, friends and good health.”

The initiative consists of updated literature and new, five tri-fold marketing brochures highlighting key targeted areas (Downtown, Entertainment, Fishing, History and Maritime) to be used to generate economic activity and increase tourism.

This week’s program features Holocaust survivors and includes a story about a former resident of the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter, now Fort Ontario State Historic Site.

State Senator Patty Ritchie recently honored Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd with the New York State Senate Commendation Award for his lasting contributions to Oswego County. Sheriff Todd is retiring at the end of the year.

On Thursday (November 15) at 9:35 a.m., deputies charged Melissa J. Webster, 36, of 280 Cherry St., Apt. 1, Oswego, with Welfare Fraud, 3rd degree and Grand Larceny, 3rd degree, both class D felonies.

The public will learn how the design standards guide new development and redevelopment in downtown Oswego, and how it relates to the Oswego Code updates.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (November 13) the signing of a Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement with the Victor Orlando Woolson Foundation to provide funding assistance for the city-sponsored Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program.
