Schumer, Gillibrand Announce $19K In Funding For Village Of Mexico To Study Water Infrastructure Upgrades

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today (September 5) announced $19,000 for the village of Mexico. The village of Mexico will use the funding to prepare a Preliminary Funding Estimate study, which will provide solutions to problems facing its aging water system.

Committee OKs Plans For Domestic Violence Awareness Events

Mayor Billy Barlow received a request from Sara Carmichael, Service to Aid Families Advocate with Oswego County Opportunities. They would like to use a portion of Breitbeck Park during the month of October in order to place a display in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. ‘Combative Patient’ Taken Into Custody

At approximately 2:16 p.m. today (September 3), Oswego Police were dispatched to the area of Orville Street near East Twelfth Street in the city of Oswego to assist EMS with a combative patient. Prior to police arrival the patient allegedly threatened EMS and then threatened suicide. The patient did not allowed police or EMS to enter his residence.

SUNY Oswego’s “I Am Oz” Diversity Speaker Series will open this fall with an appearance by LaToya Ruby Frazier, a photographer and environmental activist who uses her art as a catalyst for social justice.
Frazier will make a presentation titled “Flint Is Family” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27, in Marano Campus Center auditorium (Room 132). Doors open at 6.

Bishop Cunningham Designates Day of Prayer and Fasting for Hope and Healing for Victims of Clergy Sexual Abuse

Most Rev. Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of Syracuse has asked every parish to celebrate a Mass on the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows (September 15 and 16) with the intention of the Church asking for forgiveness and for the healing of victims of abuse.

A worker at the county health department's mosquito laboratory in West Monroe separates species of mosquitoes for testing. Samples of mosquitoes that could carry the EEE virus are sent to the state Department of Health laboratory every week during the summer and tested to see if the EEE virus is present in Oswego County.

More EEE Found at Toad Harbor Swamp

With families planning outdoor activities during the last few weeks of summer, Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang reminds residents of all ages to continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost occurs. Huang said today (August 29) the New York State Health Department recently announced that two additional samples of mosquitoes collected at Toad Harbor Swamp have tested positive for EEE.
