‘Elvis’ To Perform At Oswego Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Movie actor, national recording artist and concert performer “Legend” Elvis (Michael Paul Callahan) will make an appearance at 5:10 .p.m for the Port City’s tree lighting ceremony. There will be a full day of activities including a visit from Santa, a children’s parade, multiple stage performances, food vendors, live reindeer, fireworks after the tree is lit and so much more.

OFD Says: Cook Safely This Thanksgiving

According to the U.S Fire Administration, there are more home fires on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year. “Most fires on Thanksgiving occur between noon and 4 p.m. – the peak cooking hours,” Oswego Fire Chief Randy Griffin said. “Many of those fires can be easily avoided by staying alert and remaining in the kitchen while cooking.”

A.G. Schneiderman Announces Settlement With Oswego County To Ensure Health Insurance Coverage For Transgender Employees

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced a settlement with the County of Oswego to ensure that transgender County employees and retirees have access to essential health care coverage through their employer-provided health plan. As part of the settlement, the county has agreed to eliminate from its plan a categorical exclusion on expenses related to gender transition; to offer an affirmative benefit for treatments and procedures for gender transition; and to ensure training and compliance with anti-discrimination laws going forward.

Reps. Katko and Suozzi Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Combat Opioid Addiction

U.S. Reps. John Katko and Tom Suozzi (NY-3) today (Nov. 20) announced that they have introduced bipartisan legislation geared towards reducing opioid addiction and drug abuse in New York and nationwide. The legislation, introduced in the Senate by Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), would limit the initial supply of opioid prescription for acute pain to seven days.
