“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Fred Graves, one of the all-time great drivers, car owners, and an individual who dedicated much of his life to Oswego Speedway,” said track owner John Torrese. “His legacy will be carried on for many years to come and we extend our warmest thoughts to the Graves family and their friends at this difficult time.”
The holidays are a time in which families reunite over a meal and catch up on what has happened since the last gathering. Whether it is for family, friends or even just the good food, Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to remember things could be a lot worse and it is important to always be grateful for what you have.

Following passage in the U.S. House of Representatives today (Nov. 16) of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act, U.S. Rep. New York is finally seeing poverty rates edge downwards. Sustained economic gains and strong federal and state programs have led to welcome progress in the fight against poverty over the last several years. But poverty in New York remains higher than it was before the Great Recession, and actions by Congress and the Trump administration threaten to weaken the very programs that have contributed to progress made so far.
The Oswego State men’s hockey team announced today (Nov. 14), that former team member Michael Wills, Class of 2015, will return to the Marano Campus Center Arena Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, when his alma mater hosts two fierce competitors, Buffalo State and Fredonia. Now an internationally-recognized professional artist, Wills will capture on canvas the light, energy and enthusiasm of NCAA Division III men’s college hockey games in two very unique paintings during live games over the weekend.
A group of concerned citizens spent their lunch hour Tuesday holding an informational picket outside Oswego City Hall. “If you look at where we’re going to pay for this on the back end, we’re going to see the deficit balloon,” explained Tom Drumm, one of the organizers. “What you’ll see nationally is massive cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. This hurts New York, in my opinion. (The plan) seems to go after the poor and the elderly; which is the playbook we typically see. It hurts our most vulnerable populations.”
Federal funding is available to the state and to tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flooding in the counties of Jefferson, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence, and Wayne.
At about 11:05 a.m. Monday (Nov. 13), sheriff’s deputies arrested Rayburn S. Stewart, 54, of 876 French St., Parish. He allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at the victim, then shot off a round into the residence and released air from the victim’s vehicle tires so they couldn’t leave.
The free classes are tailored for first responders and those likely to witness an opioid overdose. The first session runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with a second to follow from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Both take place at the Oswego County Health Department, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. The third and fourth sessions are scheduled to run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Fire Station, 12 Lake St., Pulaski.
