Governor Cuomo Launches Campaign To Stop Sales, Use Of Synthetic Marijuana

Governor Andrew Cuomo today (Oct. 3) announced a new public awareness campaign encouraging New Yorkers to report the illegal sales of synthetic drugs, commonly referred to as synthetic marijuana. The campaign consists of ads that warn New Yorkers about the dangers associated with use of these man-made drugs and inform those who suffer from addiction that help is available.

During the early 1900s the buildings inside the old stone fort were abandoned and fell into ruin until renovated in 1928. This c.1918 photograph shows the eerie conditions inside the fort during World War I which no doubt unnerved lone sentries on guard duty.

Fort Ontario Ghost Reveal Set for Oct. 14 – 15

On Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 14 and 15, the Friends of Fort Ontario, Central New York Ghost Hunters, and NYS Parks will host the annual Ghost Reveal and Tour event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. Oswego County Will Not Conduct Aerial Spraying of Toad Harbor Area

Due to low numbers of mosquitoes and recent test results that show no evidence of Eastern equine encephalitis virus, the Oswego County Health Department has decided not to conduct aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor area at this time. Although the mosquito population continues to decline, people in Oswego County should continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost.

Oswego Council Hikes Rental Permit Fee

At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, the mayor’s proposed rental fee permit hike was approved, 5-1-1. Council president Shawn Walker cast the lone nay vote and Councilor Robert Corradino abstained. It will help hold landlords accountable and pressure them into maintaining their property, the mayor said.
