She was employed at the Baldwinsville Central School District where she was the principal at VanBuren Elementary school. She begins her duties on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Mayor Barlow Ends Fire Department’s ‘Abusive Overtime’ Practice

Barlow Jr. announced today (Aug. 16) the signing of an Executive Order that orders the immediate end to an overtime practice within the Oswego Fire Department that rewarded the most senior firefighters with overtime in direct violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the city and its firefighter’s union, according to the Mayor’s Office.

Oswego’s Winter Parking Plan Continues To Evolve

In the middle of one of the hottest, driest summers in Oswego history, the Administrative Services Committee was once again focused on the city’s winter parking policy. For about an hour Monday night councilors and residents discussed concerns and possible solutions to the city winter parking problems. Currently, the plan is “a work in progress.” A final resolution has yet to be proposed.

Gov. Cuomo Announces Grants For CNY Water Infrastructure Improvements

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today (Aug. 15) announced $14.6 million in grants to support 12 critical municipal water infrastructure projects in Central New York. These grants are part of the second round of NYS Water Grants funded through the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. Oswego, Phoenix and Constantia will receive funding.

Lightning Strike Causes Second Fire In Oswego

Oswego Fire Department personnel were notified at 3:24 p.m. today (Aug. 13) of a building located at 19 E. Cayuga St. struck by lightning. A customer of an adjacent business reported the strike to OFD officials after witnessing it and seeing smoke. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to a non-structural section of the roof.

At 11:35 this morning, Oswego Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 192 E. Eighth St., near Oak Hill Park. Although no injuries were reported, one family is displaced due to the electrical failure and damage to the structure. The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Hundreds Turn Out To Support Oswego Firefighters

Several members of the Oswego Fire Department, along with a couple hundred of their friends, held a public rally outside City Hall on Thursday to raise awareness about the impending cuts to the department and the potential loss of services that may follow. “We are supported here today by not only our members, local firefighters and their families from across Central New York, other unions and members of the public,” John Geraci, president of the Oswego Firefighters’ Association, told Oswego County Today.” They have “a ton of support,” he said indicating the huge crowd in Civic Plaza, adding that there were several pro OFD signs around the city.

Buc Booster Clambake set for August 13 to Save Oswego Sports

The Oswego Buccaneer Booster’s SOS Committee (Save Oswego Sports) has planned a huge clambake with the goal of raising enough money to reinstate the remaining sports teams that were eliminated from the 2016-17 O.C.S. D. budget. Thanks to the generous donations by the community, 100%of the ticket sales will go directly to the general fund to pay for these teams and help support athletics for this year and next.
