Two Oswego County Women Facing Drug Possession, Child Endangerment Charges

On Wednesday State Police stopped a vehicle on West Street in Syracuse that was operating with three small children in the backseat without proper child safety restraints. Investigation at the scene revealed the operator, Sherita Dana, 33, from Hannibal, and passenger Sabrina Johnson, 30, from Fulton, were allegedly in possession of heroin, Suboxone without a valid prescription, marijuana, and hypodermic needles.

Katko: Safe Haven Progressing Toward National Park Status

“I am so proud of (Safe Haven). It is one of the great pieces of Jewish heritage in this country, and indeed the world,” Congressman Katko said. “When I was in Israel last year, I mentioned it to some of the folks in the Israeli Cabinet and they were really fascinated by it.” Fort Ontario and Safe Haven are “a great jewel of our area,” he added. His efforts to raise the site to national park status continue to move forward.

Firefighters Urge Caution Near Fireworks on Independence Day

Independence Day, unfortunately, is one of the busiest days of the year for firefighters. According to the National Fire Protection Association, more fires are reported on the Fourth of July than on any other day of the year, and two out of five are fireworks-related incidents. Oswego Fire Department Chief Jeff McCrobie advises that the best way to enjoy fireworks and prevent injury is to watch a professional show.

Entergy Identifies, Stops Flow of Lubricating Oil From FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant

This morning (June 27), Entergy personnel at its James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba identified the source of oil released to the site’s discharge canal on Sunday and stopped the flow. While this oil contains no PCBs, is non-radioactive, non-hazardous and has low potential health effects, any unintended release to Lake Ontario is not in accordance with Entergy’s standards.
