DA: Project Intervention Is A ‘Win-Win’

he Oswego County District Attorney’s Office and the County of Oswego Council on Alcoholism & Addictions are proud to announce that they held the inaugural session of “Project Intervention” on October 14 and 15. Project Intervention is an education program for first-time offenders under the age of 25 who are charged with low-level drug possession for personal use, such as unlawful possession of marihuana.

Donation Supports Fire Department’s Smoke Alarm Program in Oswego

At its meeting Monday night, the Administrative Services Committee, councilors approved Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie’s request to accept a trio of donations. One of them was 200 smoke detectors from Lowe’s. Firefighters carry smoke alarms with them on calls, the chief pointed out. That way, he explained, if a resident doesn’t have one or needs a replacement, they can receive one right there.

With 120 acres to customize to their liking, the Raceway Park team has envisioned a state-of-the-art, modern and unique racetrack facility to accommodate all motor sports, all year round. The track has already been guaranteed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be home to Super DIRT Week for 2016 and onward.

One Stop Career Center Aids Local Job Seekers

The county’s support of the One Stop Center has paid dividends as the site will continue to assist job seekers. At this month’s legislature meeting, Oswego County Legislator James Karasek said, “It’s important for us in the county, with the unemployment rate that we have, that we provide the proper services to help people try to find a job.” The center will host an open house.

Mexico Pair Facing Felony Drug Charges

On October 16, at approximately 7:45 p.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force executed methamphetamine related search warrants on both a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, as it traveled on State Route 104 in the town of New Haven, as well as a residence located at 362 State Route 104B in the town of Mexico.

Council Eyes Amendment Targeting Emergency Work

At its meeting Monday night, the Administrative Services Committee recommended an amendment to the section of the city code regarding the issuance or renewal of building permits. “An issue has arisen regarding a property that is delinquent in taxes … the work that needs to be done is structural work that is required; it’s a danger, so we’re trying to work out an agreement,” City Attorney Gay Williams explained.

A Look At Drug Use in Oswego County

For many residents in Oswego County, it seems as though they are learning of a new drug arrest almost weekly. This leaves many people questioning why there seems to be such a drug problem in our area. While the issue with drugs is not just a local problem, as it is seen on a national level as well, Oswego County has enacted many ways to combat the issue such as the Oswego County Drug Task Force team and resolutions such as drug court for drug related arrests.
