In its 11th year at SUNY Oswego, the project is part of an annual statewide community-service project by Student-Athlete Advisory Council chapters at some SUNY Athletic Conference colleges. SAAC’s mission is to generate a student-athlete voice among Oswego’s intercollegiate teams and to enhance school spirit within athletics.
At Tuesday’s Oswego school board meeting, members heard a proposal that would give students interested in the communication field a boost. About a year ago, Jamie Sykut brought forth the idea of Career and Technical Education diploma endorsement – an academic honors program. Now, Sykut hopes to augment the program even further by creating a digital communications course.

All of the snowplows and other heavy equipment had been removed from the Oswego County Highway Department Garage on Schaad Drive on Monday evening (Oct. 5). Instead, the cavernous facility housed an even more powerful juggernaut. Federal, state and local officials joined more than 2,000 concerned FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant employees, their families, and community members to express support for FitzPatrick.

Seventeen students from around the county were sworn in on Sept. 22 as the newest members of Oswego County’s Youth Court. Not all of them were able to attend the ceremony. Oswego County Family Court Judge Kim Seager administered the oath at the Oswego County Courthouse on Oneida Street as members of the graduates’ families looked on, many of them taking photographs.
Marking the two-year anniversary of the death of SUNY Oswego’s largest donor, the trustee of the Lorraine E. Marano Living Trust came to campus Sept. 28 to dedicate a plaque installed in the Marano Campus Center, which was named in honor of Lorraine and Nunzio “Nick” Marano’s generous community spirit and their $7.5 million gift.
