Oswego Board Looking For More Budget Cuts

“We need to get this under control,” board member Sam Tripp said. The current budget proposal is $656,000 less than it was just a couple days ago. However, board members want to lower the tax increase before presenting a budget to the public. The board will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday to go over an updated draft budget. The following day is the deadline to have the budget approved.

Annual Autism Walk Scheduled Saturday in Oswego

The Family Fun Walk for Autism will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leighton School and Wilber track and field. New this year will be a vendor and silent auction area. Also new this year, the event will feature a quieter and separate section where you can get away from all the excitement for a while.

Committee OKs Fire Department’s Ambulance Request

At its meeting Monday night, the administrative Services Committee gave the green light to renting an ambulance from May through July. The rental period would cover some of the Port City’s busiest times, including the Bridge Street Run, according to Jeff McCrobie, fire chief. It will also allow the department to perform preventative maintenance on its other ambulances.

Leadership Oswego County Participants to Install Ramp for ARISE

On April 18, Leadership Oswego County participants, in collaboration with ARISE, will install an ADA accessible ramp for a Central Square resident from 9 – 11:30 a.m. at the Roxbury Estates. ARISE and the Leadership Oswego County Class of 2015 team previously built ramp pieces in preparation for the installation.

Oswego School Board Entering Budget Homestretch

The board of education held another budget workshop on Thursday. However, they feel they are still way off from having a budget proposal they feel comfortable presenting to the public. They are looking to find more cost savings as well as ways to increase revenues. The lateness of receiving state aid figures this year greatly hindered the local budget process. More discussion will take place at the April 21 board meeting.
