Enter to Win the Oswego County Fishing and Hunting Guide Photo Contest

The Oswego County Promotion and Tourism Office announces a new photo contest for all shutterbugs. Winning pictures will be featured in the new Oswego County Fishing and Hunting Guide, which will be published in 2015. The contest is open to county residents and non-residents, as long as the photos are taken in Oswego County within the last three years.

Oswego Committee OKs Oswego Polar Plunge Request

The event, being planned for the end of March 2015, helps raise funds and awareness of Special Olympics New York. In the past, members of the Common Council have participated. Two members have been nominated to take part in the 2015 plunge. Special Olympics is the largest amateur sports organization in the world.

College Student Facing Felony Charge

SUNY Oswego University Police at 2:40 a.m. today (Dec. 5) charged Ryan P. Ortolano, 21, of 270 W. Bridge St. in Oswego and Ehmer Drive in Lagrangeville with a felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Additional charges include driving while intoxicated, driving with a BAC of .08 or more, speeding, failure to keep right and driving an uninspected vehicle.

Tarandi Foundation Gives $25k To Support Oswego Bookmobile

Thousands of Oswego County youth will continue to have access to books over the summer and avoid the summer setback in their learning, thanks to the generous support of the Tarandi Foundation. The Tarandi Foundation recently donated $25,000 to support the Oswego Bookmobile, which currently distributes approximately 5,000 books to 2,000 children in Oswego every summer.

Committee Gives Harborfest Green Light To Use Public Space

“What we’re asking for is the same as we have been asking for the last 20 years or so,” Doug Buske, executive director of Oswego Harbor Festivals, Inc., told the committee. “The same parking, the same parks, the same spaces. All we need is the space we had last year.” He also agreed to address some councilors’ concerns regarding safety along Lake Street near the marina area.

State Police investigate one-car fatal in Richland

State Police in Pulaski are investigating a fatal one-car crash that occurred on December 2 at approximately 7 a.m. on Frank Lacy Road in the town of Richland. The investigation has revealed a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by Tyler J. Spicer, 36, from Pulaski, was westbound on Frank Lacy Road, a half-mile east of State Route 11.

SUNY Oswego December graduates prepared for next stage

The more than 500 students eligible for December graduation ceremonies on Dec. 13 took many roads to SUNY Oswego and acquired experiences to follow many paths after. As of late November, some 430 undergraduates and 101 graduate students were eligible for the Dec. 13 ceremonies in the Marano Campus Center arena, which also will be streamed live with a link from oswego.edu homepage.
