Oswego To Set Public Hearing On Code For Vacant Buildings

The Administrative Services Committee tweaked the proposed Vacant Buildings Code on Tuesday night. The Quality of Life Committee presented the tentative new code to councilors recently for their review.
Councilors Tuesday night opted to include “at fair market value” in the section dealing with attempts to sell the building. And, they upped the level of the fine to $250.

Smooth Opening for New School Year In Oswego

Thousands of students headed back to the classroom Wednesday to start another new school year. “There’s a positive atmosphere all around the district today,” said Superintendent of Schools Ben Halsey. “All the students are smiling; we have a friendly and welcoming staff, it’s just a great opening day. I hope we can keep this energy going throughout the entire year.”

Oswego County Will Conduct Aerial Spraying Tonight

The Oswego County Health Department plans to conduct aerial spraying of approximately 10,000 acres of land in the Big Bay – Toad Harbor Swamp area in the towns of Hastings, West Monroe and Constantia between 6 and 9 p.m. today (Sept. 3). The area was previously sprayed in early August and is bounded by U.S. Route 11 in Central Square to the west; NYS Route 49 to the north; up to but not including the village of Constantia to the east; and the shoreline of Oneida Lake to the south. Spraying will not take place over the waters of Oneida Lake.

Two in arrested following meth lab investigation

UPDATE: Two Fulton residents are facing felony drug charges. Members of the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team along with members of the Fulton City Police Department, New York State Police, and Oswego County Sheriff’s Office reportedly discovered a methamphetamine lab at 306 West Broadway in Fulton.

County Postpones Spraying

Aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor – Big Bay Swamp area in Oswego County is cancelled this evening, Tuesday, Sept. 2, due to weather conditions. Weather permitting, aerial spraying will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 3, between 6 and 9 p.m. Residents will be notified through the news media and information will be posted on the Oswego County Web site at www.oswegocounty.com.

Kites and Cars Over and Around Fort Ontario Event Set Saturday

On September 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual Kites Over Fort Ontario event will be held on the spacious grounds of Fort Ontario State Historic Site. In addition, antique and classic cars, trucks, military, and other vehicles are invited to set up in the fort’s shady grove. Kite experts from around the United States and Canada, including members of New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE) and noted kite historian Tom Shanken will help kite fliers of all ages and skill levels.
