State Police charge Mexico Man with Impersonating a Police Officer
State Police in Fulton were contacted on Monday (3/31/14) by the town of Volney Fire Chief regarding a suspicious vehicle. This investigation resulted in the arrest of 40-year-old Christopher A. Hughes from Mexico. Hughes was charged with 1 count of Criminal Impersonation in the 2nd Degree, a class “A” misdemeanor.

He races mountain bikes on a national level, rides about 10,000 miles year-round and works in a Rochester bicycle shop, where he applies skills he needed to learn to afford racing.

Jefferson County’s public schools will receive $8.7 million in additional aid, Oswego County schools will receive $5.4 million, and 12 districts in St. Lawrence County that are included in Senator Ritchie’s district will receive $6.1 million additional.

Come to the fourth annual Oswego War of 1812 Symposium next weekend at the Lake Ontario Conference and Event Center on East First Street in Oswego. Hear true stories about the war along the New York-Canadian border from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, April 6. The event opens on Friday, April 4 with a student presentation competition, a meet-and-greet social with cash bar, and early registration from 6 to 9 p.m.

Muscles bulged and hearts pounded as Bob Natoli led his son Bobby (the youngest ever Guinness Strength and Fitness World Record Holder from a chin-up record in 2008), and son-in-law David Bourdon in breaking an amazing six Guinness Fitness World Records in only one hour while Lance Patterson, Guinness Record Adjudicator Michael Empric, and a large crowd of supporters cheered them on.
Seaway Opens 56th Navigation Season
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation marked the opening of the Seaway’s 56th navigation season today (March 28), with the transit of Algoma Central Corporation’s newly built ship, the Algoma Equinox, through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. The vessel is the first of eight Equinox-class ships that are being purpose-built for trade in the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Oswego County Environmental Management Council Announces Earth Week Events
In September 1969, US Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration taking place in the spring of 1970, in support of the environment. Since then, Earth Day has been celebrated each year on April 22. Today, Earth Day has spread to numerous countries across the globe. Oswego County’s Earth Week is set April 25 to May 4.
