Early Wednesday afternoon, the Oswego Fire Department responded mutual aid to a structure fire on Franklin Avenue in the Town of Oswego. Fire officials stated that one person was treated for smoke inhalation by Menter Ambulance and there were no firefighter injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The county DPW garage in Scriba went to the dogs Wednesday – with a few felines thrown in for good measure. It was the Oswego County Health Department’s first rabies clinic of season. “We like to see a lot of people take advantage of the rabies clinics,” said Chris Williams, senior public health sanitarian at Oswego County Health Department. “Rabies is still out there. When you least expect it, it pops up.”
During the past two weeks, he has met with principals and department heads in an effort to reduce spending and review staffing of each area. He said, “There has been a significant amount of work done to get to the next level” and that there had been approximately $3.8 million in proposed reductions. Approximately $329,000 in reductions is not “people related.”
John Spotswood celebrated his 50th birthday last month. His sister stuck three scratch-off Lottery tickets in a card and placed it in his mailbox. The Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team today (March 25) arrested and criminally charged two individual’s relating to the criminal sale of prescription drugs within the city of Oswego. One involved a sale of drugs across the street from Oswego High School, police said.
The stories of two early 19th century American flags, and British plans for ending the War of 1812, will be explored Saturday morning, April 5, at the fourth annual Oswego War of 1812 Symposium in Oswego.
The city of Oswego will once again take charge of the men’s and women’s softball leagues this summer. The council debated whether the city would make any money by providing the service. The council approved a new fee schedule with funds generated being dedicated into the Softball Accounting Reserve Fund.
Operators removed Nine Mile Point Unit 2 from service at approximately 12:30 a.m. today (March 24) to begin the station’s planned refueling outage. During the outage, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group employees and more than 1,200 supplemental workers will perform more than 2,000 maintenance activities, tests and safety inspections on a variety of plant components and systems.
