The Port of Oswego Authority (POA) has examined three decades of revenues from its operations, starting from 1985. The fiscal year for the POA starts April 1, and ends on the following March 31. A very interesting statistic in each audited report is the total revenues for the fiscal year.
Lenuta Giukin of SUNY Oswego’s modern languages and literatures faculty won a five-month Fulbright Scholarship last fall to Moldova in Eastern Europe, where she taught and did research on the burgeoning film industry in the Romanian- and Russian-influenced nation.
U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today (Feb. 28) announced he has released a survey to people and businesses across Central New York soliciting their input on the challenges facing local infrastructure and ideas to improve the structural framework that supports our local communities. Maffei will be sending this survey to local municipal leaders and business organizations.
The school messenger system was used to provide updated information relating to snow days. The following is the message that was sent to the parents, guardians and district employees by the Oswego City School District.
SUNY Oswego’s Quest has chosen Bruce Coville, alumnus and famed author of books for children and young adults, as keynote speaker for the daylong celebration of scholarly and creative pursuits in April. Coville is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. April 9, in the Campus Center auditorium. The session is free and open to the public, as are scores of presentations, exhibitions and demonstrations that day, most in the Campus Center.
During a town hall meeting Thursday night several city residents came to City Hall to share their comments and concerns with city officials. A wide variety of topics was covered.
Rep. Maffei began working on this legislation after Fulton resident Beverly Belton, whose life was saved by first responders when her home was destroyed in a fire in 2013, contacted Rep. Maffei and asked him to introduce a bill that would create a day honoring first responders.
As of 10 a.m. today (Feb. 27), Mayor Tom Gillen lifted the travel advisory in the city of Oswego, which was imposed on Wednesday afternoon. Motorists are strongly encouraged not to park on city streets if off-street parking is available to them.
Going forward with the budget process, Oswego School Superintendent Ben Halsey said he will be having some individual meetings with people he refers to as “budget builders.” He will work with the district’s business manager as well to get some numbers in place so that he can share that information with the school board in early March.
This morning (Feb. 26), the Hon. James Metcalf, Acting Oswego County Court Judge, sentenced Robert F. Moshier of Oswego to 5 to 15 years in state prison based upon his conviction for Manslaughter in the Second Degree, as well as 6.5 years and 3 years post-release supervision upon his conviction for Assault in the Second Degree.
