Schumer, Gillibrand Announce $1.2 Million Obligation Coming from Feds to NYS Canal Flood Warning System

Today (Jan. 29), US Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the New York State Canal Flood Warning System has received a Federal Emergency Management Agency funding obligation totaling $1.2 million for the installation of rain and stream gauges along the Mohawk River, Oswego River and Upper Hudson River Basin.

OHS Army All-Americans Recognized By Oswego School Board

Cassandra Hondro, second from left, and Emily King are recognized by Kathleen Allen, board president, and Superintendent Ben Halsey.At its last meeting, the Oswego City School District Board of Education congratulated the two Oswego High School U.S. Army All-American musicians who were chosen to perform in San Antonio, Texas. They were the only two musicians from the entire state to participate in this elite marching band. Oswego Robotics Team Wins NY VEX Toss Up State Championship, Qualifies for Worlds

Dr. Mark Humphrey (parent/mentor), Jordan Runner, Jeremy Braiman, Michael Beckwith, Jr., Evan James, Adam Humphrey, Lydia Tryon, Daniel Tryon (coach and SUNY Oswego professor), and Jordan Tryon.  Missing in photo:  Justin Montois (coach and SUNY Oswego student).Thirty-six robotics teams from all over New York State competed, by invitation only, on January 25 for the title of State Champion at the Northern NY VEX Toss Up State Championship. Two teams from Oswego dominated the competition during the qualification rounds. Both teams made it to the semi-finals; both teams won special awards. And, one of them won a coveted spot in the next level of competition.

Snow Bands Continue To March Over Oswego Area

The ice forms in some rather strange ways on the shores of Lake Ontario, especially after some wind and waves on Monday afternoon. Photo courtsey of Joe Falcetti.After a snow and blustery Monday, things will improve slightly Tuesday. The area shoveled out from underneath another 7 inches of snow on Monday. The blowing and drifting snow caused whiteout conditions, which delayed or closed many county school districts and cancelled other afternoon and evening events. It will be cold overnight with more lake effect flurries east of Lake Ontario and Tuesday will see a mix of sun and clouds, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service.

Heidi Allen’s Sister Shares Message Of Hope

Local author and speaker Lisa M. Buske recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to speak at The Heidi Search Center’s annual banquet. This wasn’t Buske’s first interaction with the HSC. Their relationship began in April 1994 – when the center sent a search and rescue expert to join the search for Buske’s sister, Heidi M. Allen.
