Oswego School Board Disputes Financial Stress Claim

The state told districts to cut down their fund balances; now we’ve done that and all of a sudden we are in ‘financial stress’? the board vice president asked. As far as the money we have, cash on hand, I feel pretty good about how much we have in reserves, another board member said.

Barclay: Tax Cuts, Ethics Part of Budget Proposal but CNY Left Out

Assemblyman Will Barclay released the following statement today (Jan. 22) following the Governor’s 2014-15 Executive Budget proposal. I am pleased to hear about the tax cuts for Upstate manufacturers. Cutting corporate taxes will give businesses more reason to stay as well as attract others. It was disappointing to hear so little about Central New York in the speech. I hope the budget reveals other details for our region.

Lacona man struck and killed by train while riding snowmobile on train tracks

New York State PoliceThe investigation revealed that the victim, Bernard C. Joss, 04/10/58, of Lacona, was riding his 2002 Polaris 700 snowmobile on the train tracks when his sled apparently became stuck on the rails. Despite the oncoming train, Joss reportedly continued to attempt to free his sled from the tracks before being struck.

SUNY Oswego art exhibition to raise awareness of memory loss

Ann Thayer, left, program manager for the Alzheimer's Association's Leatherstocking Region, consults with SUNY Oswego art therapy instructor Melissa "Seeley" Cardone at a "Memories in the Making" volunteer training session on campus in December. The program trained local individuals to use painting as an engagement activity for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. An exhibition of artwork seeking to raise awareness of memory-loss diseases will take place Jan. 31 to March 1 in SUNY Oswego's Tyler Art Gallery.SUNY Oswego will open a display of art Jan. 31, that seeks to raise awareness of diseases causing memory loss. A free public opening reception for “Recollection: A Memory Loss Awareness Project” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. that day in Tyler Art Gallery on campus. It will run through March 1, concurrently with SUNY Oswego’s 51st annual Juried Student Exhibition.
