Oswego Fire Department responds to structure fire at 287 Cherry St.

At 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, Oswego County 911 dispatched the Oswego City Fire Department to 287 Cherry St. for a fire in an upstairs apartment with “smoke and flames showing.” All occupants had safely exited the building before firefighters arrived. However, a cat and dog belonging to the upstairs tenants perished in the fire. Fire investigators from the Oswego Fire Department and Oswego Police Department determined that the fire was caused accidentally by unattended cooking.

Plans Under Way For 80th Anniversary of Oswego’s Lighthouse

 80th Anniversary of Oswego’s LighthouseThe H. Lee White Maritime Museum is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse this year. A Lighthouse Events Committee has been formed to work on several activities. The Museum Lighthouse Committee will be holding a planning meeting on January 26 at 2:30 p.m. Interested members of the community are invited to attend this meeting.

Flooding Eases In Sandy Creek – Town Officials Continue To Urge Caution

Flood waters in the Town of Sandy Creek west of Route 3 along the shoreline of Lake Ontario are beginning to recede today (Jan. 15), town officials reported, but people in the area should continue to use caution and follow flood safety tips. The water has receded about 8 inches overnight following flooding that occurred along North Pond in the Town of Sandy Creek.
