Museum Pays Tribute to World War II Vets, Army Tugboat
The H. Lee White Marine Museum held an anniversary party Sunday to recognize the historic US Army tugboat the LT-5. The ceremony also paid tribute to several of Oswego County’s World War II veterans.
Ritchie Announces Second Round of Funding For Area Libraries
State Senator Patty Ritchie announced she has secured a second round of special funding, bringing the total of aid she delivered to libraries in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties to more than $160,000.
Oswego School Superintedency Recruitment Continues
The Oswego City School District is in the midst of a search for its next Superintendent of Schools. Recruitment for the position has been under way for quite some time and applications for the position will be accepted through August 30. Following this application period the recruitment timeline allows for ample time to coordinate interviews and select a candidate to assume responsibilities in January 2014.
Bike Fest Revs Up Oswego Speedway
The three-day event drew a large crowd to the Oswego Speedway. There were plenty of food vendors; shops sold classic biker apparel such as leather jackets and jacket patches. Besides the musical entertainment, there were a variety bike inspired games.
Schumer, Gillibrand Announce More Than $610,000 in Operation Stonegarden Funding for Cayuga, Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence Counties
US senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today (Aug. 23) announced that Central and Northern New York is set to receive $768,562 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency allocations. First, Schumer and Gillibrand announced that $617,022 in funding for Cayuga, Jefferson Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties through the Operation Stonegarden Program in the FY2013 Homeland Security Grant Program Allocation.
Change of Command Ceremony Set At Fort Ontario
On Sunday August 25, at 11 a.m., First Lieutenant Nicholas J. Miles, will take over command of the 444th Engineer Company, 479th Engineer Battalion, USAR, during a ceremony on the historic parade ground inside old Fort Ontario. Lt. Miles, a native of Oswego, will take over command from Captain Donald J. Oechslin of Waverly, New York.
Maffei Announces More Than $1.5 Million In Federal Funding For Oswego County Airport
Today (Aug. 23), U.S. Representative Dan Maffei (D-Syracuse) announced the Oswego County Airport has been awarded more than $1.5 million in federal funding from two U.S. Department of Transportation grants to acquire aircraft deicing equipment and upgrade taxiways, lighting, and wiring throughout the airport.
Reminder: Free Tire Disposal Events Saturday
The events, which are being funded through a special state grant from Senator Ritchie, will allow Oswego County residents to drop off a maximum of four tires at five locations throughout the county, with the usual $5 fee for tire-drop off being waived. Farm tractor tires will also be accepted, but must be cut into four pieces.
